In celebration of the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, hellawella published an article yesterday titled Bizarre BBQ all about unusual foods to toss on the grill. The list did indeed have some unusual and interesting suggestions...romaine lettuce, bananas, peaches & oysters; the best item on the list in my slightly biased opinion is pizza! According to the article, pizza tastes even better on the grill.
To start out, they recommend cleaning the grates of the grill to ensure the dough does not stick. Coat your prepared dough with olive oil on both sides and lay it on the grill over medium heat. Let it cook for about one to one-and-a-half minutes on one side, and then (carefully) flip it with tongs.
Once you have flipped the dough you want to quickly top the pizza...hellawella stresses this point clearly, “Throw on the sauce and toppings like you’re participating in a timed challenge on an episode of “Master Chef” — seriously, you need to make it QUICK.”
After you’ve topped the pizza as quickly as possible, close the grill and let it cook for another one-and-a-half to two minutes, checking at least one to make sure it doesn’t overcook. You’ll know it’s ready when the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust browned.
