With the new year new me trend that always happens every year for about the first month to about 3 months in, there are many diets that people tend to gravitate towards. Some go for the no carb diet, the hyped diet from last year which is the keto diet, and of course we cannot forget the interesting kinds, pizza diet, donut diet, juice diet. Out of the more interesting diets, we are taking a look at the pizza diet. This may come to a surprise but many people go for the pizza diet after the 3 months when they’re tired of the good ole eat healthier diet with plenty fruits and veggies. Believe it or not from what I will share in just a bit below, the pizza diet which we all have dreamt about some time or another in our lives, is not all that it’s cracked up to be! The horror! Here’s why.
When we go out for a pizza, we usually have this longing for some really gooey cheese, warm and toasty crust that’s been topped with the tasty marinara and extra goodies we call toppings. Initially, in receiving our pizza placed in front of us, our mouths are drooling, our stomachs are ready, our eyes are just gazing at the marvel in front of us. We then go for a slice and fireworks pop off in our mouths full of incredible flavors. Because of this amazing experience, we go for another and another until we realize that we just scarfed down about ¾ of the pizza and for some of us, we eat the whole thing in one sitting. The aftermath of this delightful treat that had us wanting more, now has us feeling a wee bit sick to our stomach. We ponder these questions, “How did I eat all that?”, “Why did I eat all that?” or make statements like “I should not have eaten all that,” “Oh I feel sick, like my food is up to my throat.” Do all of those questions and statements make it all worthwhile? Our pallets say yes, while our stomachs say no.
Here’s some facts:
2 oz slice of pizza = approximately 168 calories (54 cal from fat alone)
1 big slice of pepperoni pizza = approximately 311 calories
(Based on these facts, if we tend to eat 8 big slices of pepperoni pizza in 1 sitting, we are approximately consuming 2,488 calories!) We may as well NOT eat for the rest of the day since an average consumption of calories usually tends to be at 2,000 calories/day!
Want to know what happened to people who tried the 7 Day Only Pizza Diet? Common results below:
Day 1 - Discomfort in stomach, many suffered slight cramps
Day 2 - Faces were puffy, hands swollen, mouths dry, felt really thirsty. Throughout the day, uncontrollable burping, experienced first case of heartburn. Evening - felt woozy and unsteady
Day 3 - Woke up groggy, wobbly, disoriented. Most felt thirsty, unable to quench thirst with water. Fluid got trapped in the body which led to being swollen. Bowel movements stopped for about 3 days. Heartburn became more severe
Day 4 - Woke up with red spots and blemishes on faces, problems keeping eyes open during day, went to bed early feeling exhausted
Day 5 - Minds not as sharp, thoughts were scattered, faces, legs, feet - swollen, eyes dry. Many felt strange, feeling sleepy, sluggish, stomach in knots
Day 6 - Not much change, those who decided to work out felt weak and unmotivated - decrease in endurance/strength
Day 7 - Many concluded pizza would not be a food to only survive off of - many started craving vegetables.
The takeaway from their ‘research’ of the 7 day straight pizza diet:
Pizza high in fats (good fats and saturated fats(bad fats) - if pizza is eaten in large quantities for a long period of time, it can cause high blood pressure, obesity, insulin resistance, high cholesterol, and lead to diabetes.
