Eat more pizza. That is the message from Italian Researchers who say eating more pizza can actually decrease your chances for certain types of cancers.
The secret? It is in the tomatoes, researches said, according to a British Broadcasting Corporation Report.
The Lycopene in the sauce is a very powerful antioxidant that can decrease the risk of developing oesophageal cancer by fifty-nine percent, the researchers said.
Also, pizza eaters can decrease their risks for colon cancer by twenty-six percent, and for mouth cancer by thirty-four percent, the researchers found.
However, researchers cautioned that eating pizza is not a cancer cure all on its own. Healthy lifestyles and diets also contribute.
The research comes from comparing the pizza-eating habits of three thousand of those with certain cancers versus five thousand of those without, and finding that those who comprised the second group ate pizza at least once a week, British Broadcasting Corporation reported.
“We knew that tomato sauce could offer protection against certain tumors, but we did not expect pizza as a complete meal also to offer such protective powers.” Said Dr. Silvano Gallus of the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmaceutical Research in Milan who led the research, told British Broadcasting Corporation.
Other scientists suggest caution, however.
Nicola O’Connor of Cancer Research United Kingdome, said in the British Broadcasting Corporation report: “This study is interesting. But before people start dialing the pizza takeaway, they should consider that pizza can be high in saturated fat, salt and calories.”
