What you will need:
1 teaspoon of white sugar
1 1/2 cup of warm water (the water should be around 109 degrees F for best results)
1 tablespoon of active dry yeast
1 tablespoon salt
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
What you need to do:
In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in your warm water. Sprinkle your yeast over the top of the water/sugar mix, let this stand four about 10 minutes or until it is foamy.
Stir in the olive oil and salt in to the yeast mixture, from there you will want to add your whole wheat flour and 1 cup of the all-purpose flour until your dough starts to come together. Tip dough out onto a surface floured with the remainng all-purpose flour. KNEAD KNEAD KNEAD until all the flour has been absorbed, and the ball of dough becomes smooth, this should take about 10 minutes. This recipe is also a great workout for your hands!
Place the dough in an oiled bowl, and turn coating the surface. After you have coated the entire surface cover your creation loosely with a towel, place it somewhere warm (room temp) until it has doubled in size normally takes about an hour. Keep this in mind when you are picking out your bowl.
When the dough is doubled, tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, divide into 2 peces for two thin crust or leave it whole if you enjoy thick crust. Form your dough into a tight ball. Let is rise for about 45 minutes, until doubled.
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Roll a ball of dough with a rolling pin until it will not stretch any further. Then, drape it over both of your fists and gently pull the edges outward while roating the crust. This is the fun part that you see in most pizza places, however, beware of your ceiling and not to toss it to high as it may stick to your ceiling which will create additional work and result in loss of yummy pizza later! If you are a novice leave the tossing to the experts.
When you have reached your desired size, place on a well oiled pizza pan. Top your pizza with all of your favorite toppings (sauce, cheese, meats, or vegetables).
Bake for 16 to 20 minutes (depending on the thickenss) in the preheated oven, until the crust is crisp and golden around the edges and all the cheese is melted.
Then enjoy your delicious creation!
