There are more and more food places popping up out of nowhere with so many skilled chefs, foodies who just played with recipes and now they have awesome products to sell, to more chains of restaurants, the competition just keeps getting higher and higher. No matter if you’ve had business skills coming into running your own restaurant or barely learning as you go, you will not survive in this technology driven society that looks to Yelp, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, online reviews world, if you are solely passing out flyers or relying on word of mouth. Regardless if you put a big billboard, you will not get that foot traffic or phone orders you need unless you start learning how to utilize the online tool in the palm of your hand, found in your phone! Here are some pages you may want to start engaging in. Remember, it’s the people that make your restaurant what it is. Allow the people to help you, but get to know them, introduce yourself first and show more of what you’re all about.
INSTAGRAM: Instagram is an incredible social media app that allows people to engage with you via photos and videos. You know how your website is also your store front. Think of Instagram this way as well, except you can also share videos. Take time to create high quality photos, shout out another restaurant that does not have the dishes you serve, like/comment on your fans photos (<-- that makes the happy!), show love to those who show love to you. Allow them or ask them to tag your instagram in their photos posing with the food. Run awesome contests of who has the best food selfie photo and winner wins a FREE full course meal for example! The more you love on them, the more they love on you.
TWITTER: Though you can also add photos and videos onto Twitter as well, Twitter is a great way to interact in some hot topics your fans are in, set the tone for who you are as a restaurant. One example is Digiorno Pizza on Twitter. They are quite a character. They do have quite a lot of engagement due to them expressing themselves boldly on some popular tweets.
YOUTUBE: If you haven’t realized it yet, YouTube has become one of the biggest platforms that businesses have used in order to grow their target markets as well as their pockets. From using influencers to promote their products to foodies or mukbangers eating their foods on their channel, brand awareness growth is ridiculous on YouTube. Imagine YouTube as being your free way of marketing your products/services to the masses. It also is a great way to partner with influencers who have huge followings and allowing them to share your product/service.
FACEBOOK: Facebook is pretty much a combination of Instagram and Twitter. Facebook is actually a powerful tool if you know how to use it. For instance when running the Facebook Ads. Unlike Instagram that allows you to also run ads, the ads run on Instagram may get overlooked due to the layout of Instagram showing your ad on people’s feed. The feed is composed of many different photos and videos and because your ad is also a photo or video, it can be easily overlooked unless of course you do something to make a person Stop and look. Facebook is different. Like I mentioned Facebook is a combo of Twitter and Instagram, not everyone is posting photos and the likeliness of someone stopping to check your ad is higher due to the layout of Facebook’s feed.
Overall, don’t be afraid to dive into the online realm of social media. It can actually change direction for a sinking business, to a business sailing the vast seas! Ahoy, let your ship sale!
