The replacement of humans by robots is taking place right before our eyes. Domino’s has announced their new autonomous pizza delivery robot and has already made its first pizza delivery in Australia. This four-wheeled machine, dubbed DUR (Domino’s Robotic Unit) is a self-driving robot that can deliver both hot and cold food. Launched with excitement and fanfare, the DUR has been introduced to “dramatically improve safety and efficiency, while completely changing the game of the customer experience.” While I can’t argue that it will improve the safety of the thousands of delivery drivers that are mugged or killed every day, there is a darker, scarier side to this new robot…when the concept catches on, as it undoubtedly will, it will wipe out the jobs of millions of humans.
This is just the beginning of artificial intelligence taking over humans’ jobs. There will come a day, in our lifetimes, when millions of humans will be out of work, their jobs replaced by robots. This will happen under the guise of replacing humans with beings who are more advanced and more capable, and of course more controllable, than humans. Supporting this idea is a recent study released by Oxford scientists that finds that “47% of all jobs are ‘at risk’ of being replaced by automation systems and robots in just one generation (roughly 20 years).”
We will soon be ordering our food, buying our groceries and having our houses cleaned by AI beings. What kind of impact will this have on humans? All of these advances are marketed to be more convenient for us, marketed in such ways as to excite us; however it really means a loss of jobs and a loss of control to the human race.
What will the human race do as more and more workers are replaced by artificial intelligence? It will become harder and harder for an individual to earn a paycheck as we become more replaceable by androids. You think the middle class is disappearing now? Just give it a few more decades and then tell me who is left to be able to afford to live a healthy, happy life. It has been projected that robotics will replace 75% of human workers within just 3 generations. Those upper-one-percenters who hold all of the wealth will be the only ones left to have any income…they will be the ones who own the AI. The rest of us will be powerless and will have no chance in life.
