Guns. Just say the word and folks get their feathers all ruffled up and ready for an argument. Whether you are pro- or anti-gun and/or gun control, chances are high that you have some opinion on them and that you have heard the on-going arguments for and against them. Debate over gun control has been raging for decades and continues to be a hot-topic among politicians and the American people.
According to the Second Amendment, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." For over 200 years this was interpreted to mean that militias had the right to bear arms. It was not until the 1970’s that conservatives began arguing that the Second Amendment protects individuals’ rights to bear arms as well.
As far as I am concerned the Second Amendment exists so that I, as a law-abiding citizen, can protect myself and my family. All humans should have this right. That means if I am a delivery person, I should be allowed to carry a firearm if I feel that it is necessary for my protection. Some disagree. If you recall, early this year a Papa John’s delivery driver made news for shooting an armed robber while delivering a pizza. Papa Johns faced a media backlash over talk of possibly firing the employee for carrying the gun, as company policy does not allow its employees to carry firearms. I think this is bogus. Delivering pizza is one of the most dangerous jobs in America and drivers should absolutely be allowed to carry a gun to protect themselves from possible danger. I, personally, would not accept a delivery jobp if I was unable to carry a firearm.
